The Friends of the Hood County Library maintain a Scholarship fund to assist students enrolled in a program leading to a graduate degree in library arts or science.
To be eligible to receive these funds, the student must submit a letter of application addressed to The Friends of the Hood County Library in care of the Scholarship Committee Chair and must meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Hood County or employed in Hood County, with first consideration given to an employee of Hood County Library;
- Be enrolled or officially accepted in a Texas university in an ALA accredited program leading to a graduate degree in library arts of sciences or be accepted by a masters’ program with ALA library certification; submit a copy of the letter of acceptance from the university prior to receiving the scholarship;
- Be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours during a regular semester or for at least 4 credit hours during a trimester or for at least 3 credit hours during a summer session;
- Submit a general time-line of the degree plan; and
- Submit the letter of application at least 90 days prior to the semester for which funding is requested.
For successful applicants, funds are made available on a semester basis to the designated institution, disbursed at the rate of $750 per regular semester, $475 per trimester, or $325 per summer semester. The current sum total of support provided to an individual does not exceed $4,000.
The Scholarship Chair contacts the recipient on a regular and timely basis regarding academic progress and payment schedule.
