Electronic books are coming to Hood County Public Library! The Friends have committed $10,000 to a downloadable subscription service, which will be implemented in late Spring 2012. The new e-book subscription will be a “virtual branch,” adding to the Hood County Library’s physical collection.

  • No special account will be needed, just the existing library card.
  • Items will be available 24/7 even when the library is closed.
  • Browse, check out and download to many e-reader devices such as: Kindle, NOOK, Sony, Kobo and other mobile devices.
  • Select from audio books and e-books.

Other New Projects

The Friends are also purchasing new media shelving and paying the dues for our Library to join North Texas Library Partners.

A $15 FoL book store gift certificate will be going to the families of newly completed Habitat for Humanity homes. Member Nancy Seilheimer is our liaison.

We are excited about our new project in cooperation with Tolar Elementary. Students will conduct a used book drive for the library.  Reaching out to all of Hood County, we also hope to arrange a visit to the Hood County Library for these students.

Look for a handsome new “monument” style library sign on Travis St. in February, funded by donations to the Hood County Library Foundation. The Friends are proud to be a part of this attractive addition to the library.

Kathryn Anderson, an 8th grade science teacher at Acton Middle School, has been awarded a FoL Scholarship to pursue a degree in Library Science at Texas Women’s University. “I have wanted to be a librarian since my first year of teaching, when I saw the librarian show the students how much fun reading is. I would enjoy being an elementary of middle school librarian.”

Congratulations to Kathryn! We look forward to sharing with you her progress this year.

FOL is purchasing a large flat-screen TV for the meeting room. The Summer Reading Club, regular Children’s Programs, and many local organizations will benefit from this addition to library equipment.  FOL funds are also going to prizes for the Summer Reading Club (Volunteers: see Help Kids with Summer Reading!)

This year, FoL will sponsor a library staff employee to attend Leadership Granbury. Leadership Granbury offers a unique opportunity to acquire more information about the institutions and organizations that make this community work and thrive. The program requires a committment of 1 day each month (September through May) and at several social events throughout the session that will educate participants about Granbury’s past, present and future, both locally and as a part of Texas.
