Congratulations to a spectacular Book Sale Volunteer crew! We had an amazing number of FoL Volunteers helping with the set-up process. We think we may have had the greatest number of books ever, and everyone just went to work and got them all sorted with smiles on their faces. A special “Thanks” goes to the First National Bank of Granbury for providing eco-friendly tote bags for our shoppers. The FoL Volunteers who worked during the Book Sale were all extremely helpful, and we received many compliments from our shoppers!
Another special “Thanks” to the FoL Volunteer clean-up crew. That’s always the job we do not look forward to, and we had some great workers on Monday and Tuesday after the Sale.
Book Sale Chairs Sandy Bryant, Dee Gormley, Mary Lee, and Sandra Tarver wish we could tell each of you “Thanks” personally. You are all true Friends of the Hood County Library!
The Library, which had been closed November 11-1, reopened on November 19th with new carpeting and new art work.
The new carpeting was made possible largely by a donation of $20,000 from the Friends of the Library for Hood County.

The new carpeting was made possible largely by a donation of $20,000 from the Friends of the Library for Hood County.
Art work was donated to the Library from the estate of a local resident by Lowell Richey on behalf of the family.
Kudos to FoL Members and Volunteers. The carpeting would not have been possible without you!

Donations to the Kathleen Johnson Memorial Fund allowed FoL to fulfill a dream of Hood County Childrens’ Librarian Courtney Kincaid.
Childrens’ events are generally held in the Jeanell Morris Room of the Library, which has wood floors. With winter coming on, a rug is needed more than ever for children to gather ’round and sit during Reading Hour and other Childrens’ programs.
FoL was able to use donations to the Kathleen Johnson Memorial Fund totaling almost $500 to purchase the perfect rug for this purpose!
Many thanks to the 14 donors who helped FoL to honor Kathleen Johnson’s lifelong dedication to childrens’ reading issues and her service as a former President of FoL.
The April ’09 FoL Book Sale put a lot of ‘Spring’ in our organization for the coming months. In addition to almost $10k in sales, dues collected amounted to around $1k.

The Book Sales committee extends a huge “Thank you!” to all who helped with the set-up, the sale, the clean-up, and especially for shopping at the sale! FoL member purchases on the “members only” Thursday and Friday dates accounted for more than half the total sales.
It seems our experiment with the ongoing ‘Wagon Wednesday’ mini-sales each week hasn’t hurt our ability to draw crowds for our semi-annual sales. The next big book sale will be in October, 2009.
Your donations of books (paperbacks and hardcovers) are greatly appreciated, so drop those off any time the Library is open.
