The Book Sale Committee is busy as a one-armed paper hanger as we prepare for the Grand Opening this spring of our used bookstore in the library. So much to do: signage, organizing books by topic, shelving, pricing. Many thanks to Courtney Kincaid, interim Library Director, and the library staff for working with us on this big project.
QUESTIONS:
WHERE: In the “old” library area off the meeting room on the Travis St. side of the library
HOURS: Three times a week, fours hours each time (TBA), including some evenings and Saturdays also.
WHAT: Great selections of current fiction, nonfiction and other media, bargain books, and a children’s section. We will have something for everyone.
FOL MEMBERS will get special discounts. ANNUAL BOOK SALES will continue; a benefit of FOL membership is early shopping privileges at these events.
For a limited time, FoL is offering bargain used books in fair to very good condition for sale at $2/per box. Boxes are sorted by genre and format (hardback vs. paperback). Special bargain on romance genre mass paperback books – $1/per box. Must pick-up books at the library in Granbury. Thanks go out to our Friends’ Members and other shoppers for another great Semi-annual Fall Book Sake in October, 2010. Special thanks go to all the special Friends Volunteers who never fail to help us make each sale a big success. We all enjoy the sight of people browsing books to find just the right “reads” for the upcoming winter season.

The FoL Spring ’10 Book Sale was a huge success. This Spring’s event brought in almost $10k in sales and around $2k in memberships. Thank you, FoL Members and Shoppers!
Congratulations to a spectacular Book Sale Volunteer crew! We had an amazing number of FoL Volunteers helping with the set-up process. We think we may have had the greatest number of books ever, and everyone just went to work and got them all sorted with smiles on their faces. A special “Thanks” goes to the First National Bank of Granbury for providing eco-friendly tote bags for our shoppers. The FoL Volunteers who worked during the Book Sale were all extremely helpful, and we received many compliments from our shoppers!
Another special “Thanks” to the FoL Volunteer clean-up crew. That’s always the job we do not look forward to, and we had some great workers on Monday and Tuesday after the Sale.
Book Sale Chairs Sandy Bryant, Dee Gormley, Mary Lee, and Sandra Tarver wish we could tell each of you “Thanks” personally. You are all true Friends of the Hood County Library!
FoL member Connie Youngblood has been helping her mother, Imogene Green, “downsize” her book collection. Thanks to their donation of many books, a set of sixty-six Zane Grey novels, hardcover Walter J. Black editions dating from the early 1960s to late 1970s, will be featured at the Friends’ semi-annual Book Sale this Spring. According to the Zane Grey’s West Society, this set originally included seventy-five books; five of the books included in the sixty-six books donated to the FoL are classified as “hard-to-find”.
The novel The Camp Robber, copyrighted in 1979, is among the hard-to-find titles donated to the Friends. Other hard-to-find titles include the Zane Grey: Biography volume, and the novels Boulder Dam (1963), Knights of the Range (1964), Blue Feather (1961); and The Wolf Tracker (1976).
